WiiWare Launches

When the Nintendo Channel showed up and mentioned the upcoming WiiWare service you knew it had to be showing up soon. Now not quite a week later it’s here knocking on our firewalls.

So what’s the service offering immediately? A total of 6 titles.
FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a King (1,500 Points)
LostWinds (1,000 Points)
Defend your Castle (500 Points)
Pop (700 Points)
V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack (700 Points)
TV Show King (1,000 Points)

I’m excited for this service. A lot of these titles seem to surpass a lot of 3rd party retail store tiles in every way possible. Which says a lot about the crap that gets shoveled. Also the Virtual Console is not updating this week.

So what do you think of this new service and the games it’s offering? Full details inside

Nintendo Channel Launches (with video)

Early early this morning the “Nintendo Channel” hit. I’ve just installed the channel and I’m taking a look at what the Channel offers. When you start it up you have the option to allow commercial messages to be sent to the Wii. This seems to also involve being able send your gave data to Nintendo automatically where apparently they can look at your game play trends and abilities which are used in the channel.

Download a tour video
Youtube | Download (30MB)

When you first load the channel you’re greated with a video that has a bit of game play trailers for upcoming services and games. Wii Fit, Mario Kart, WiiWare channel, ect. It also has 3rd party game videos. The video quality is very good as well.

Here are the features I can find.
View game trailers for Wii, DS, Wii Channels, Virtual Console, and special videos like interviews.
Download DS game demos to the DS.
Search for new games by New Releases, Category, or Name.
Recommend titles to a friend (games you have played for over an hour.)
You can even order games from the channel. (loads the ordering page in the Internet Channel for you)

Will It Blend?

The Will It Blend videos are the best advertisements for a blender ever and I recommend that you take a look the rest of them because they’re entertaining as hell. These videos ask the question “Will It Blend?” and promptly find the answer through the scientific method of trying stuff.

This month it is asked if a strapless Wii Remote will blend. The answer only uncovers the truth for strapless Wii Remotes through. We all know the new wrist straps are invincible.

Wii Fit, The Final Blow to My World

I know I occasionally bring this subject up, but my mom even touching a video game used to completely rock my world. Nintendo knows what it’s doing. They love saying things like “expanded market” and “casual gamer” for a couple years now starting back before the launch of the DS. This also means Nintendo knows exactly what it’s doing to me. THEY DO IT TO ME ON PURPOSE.

So what was the first sign of the cascading crumble of my world? Well first it was when my mother, strangely enough the same mother who I could never get to play Super Mario Bros. with me as a kid no matter what I did, bought her own DS… on her own. Not only that but she owns more DS games than me now. Most of them are Touch Generations games but she also has a lot of more ‘traditional’ games. She even has copies of games I have because “she didn’t want to share a card”. It’s slowly evolved into more than Touch Generation games. First console stuff she touched was DDR for a tad bit, now she occasionally visits the Wii and spends an hour or two playing around with the free Check Mii Out and News channels. Maybe Wii Sports now and then but mostly channel stuff.

I can tell that Wii Fit is going to be the final blow. Danger sign #1: My mom practically pre-orders it. Danger sign #2: My brother’s wife talks about it to friends. Danger sign #3: My dad who never really thought much of Mario Kart seems to enjoy watching the online races. ALL HOPE IS LOST SIGN: My grandmother asks about how to get a Wii and is interested in Wii Fit, finds out I have a Wii, plays it, loves it. World is over.

Whenever one of these situations occurs I see a brief flash of Reggie “I told you bitch, I not only own you, but I own your whole family.”

Virtual Console Update 73

PUNCH THINGS! Oh look Pokemon! PUNCH THINGS!
This week’s VC update includes Pokemon Puzzle League for N64, and Renegade for NES.
I wonder if you can combine the two and get renegade Pokemon? … Got nothin’, stuff is inside.

Virtual Console Update 72

Double Dragon

Woah what the? I missed a VC update? I guess my mind was on other things like what color my walls are and thinking about how many molecules of oxygen I might be spending with each breath. It’s a shame to because this VC update has something you want to play.

This week, there’s only one addition to the VC and it’s Double Dragon on the NES.

Double Dragon is awesome!

Mario Kart Wii - US Launch

Mario Kart Wii

Well Mario Kart Wii launches today in the US. I love the Mario Kart games a ton with the exception of Double Dash on Cube. I haven’t played Mario Kart Wii yet myself, but my brother has had a pre-order on it which I will probably scrounge off of so I can see what I think before thinking about getting my own copy. I’ve seen a lot of reviews for Mario Kart Wii, and they seem to list some pretty believable complaints, mainly about stuff for catering to the “Casual Gamer” crowd.  I can’t confidently say if the game I love has remained in tact.

Hopefully it’s unchanged, and maybe those complaints are minor, but it’s so hard to tell. Sometime in the not so distant future I’ll probably come back and post on what I found while playing my bro’s copy. Not so much a review, more like a scouting party for those who are unsure like me.

The whole issue with Super Smash Bros. Brawl being basically unplayable online (most the time) for me still has also got me a little cautious, although I haven’t seen or heard anything bad about the online portion that relates to lag like Brawl does.

In the mean time! Those of you who have the game already I’d like to hear what you have to say!

Virtual Console Update 71

Oh BARF! Another nice VC update? That’s something incredible anymore isn’t it?
This weeks VC update includes River City Ransom for NES, and Phantasy Star III Generations of Doom for the Sega Genesis.

Not one, but TWO note worthy titles. For me though, River City Ransom is the highlight. Such a nice, smooth controlling beat em’ up for the NES, a classic. Suggestive themes galore as well!

Virtual Console Update 70

Hmm. Actually the VC isn’t too shabby this week. By no means MIND BLOWING, but not too shabby. It’s also apparently Sega system week!

This week’s additions to the VC library are Fantasy Zone for the Sega Master System, and Mega Turrican for Sega Genesis.

Both are probably worth looking into. General information inside!

Virtual Console Update 69

Gee! The VC update sure is boring this week!
Mah boi! These games are what all true gamers strive for!
I just wonder where Earthbound is!

… So yeah. Not much this week and sorry about the whole Earthbound thing last week. This week’s VC update includes Bases Loaded for NES, and Yoshi’s Cookie for NES. The last one being an alright game. Nothing really wrong with it, but I just don’t know if it worth $5.

More info inside.
